Crib Goch – without doubt the best ridge walk south of Scotland and most definitely the finest way to reach the top of Snowdon. The crossing of this exposed, knife-edge arête is either incredibly exhilarating or completely terrifying, depending on your outlook! If you have a good head for heights and relish a challenge at the harder end of the hill walking spectrum, then this is the walk for you. A small group size ensures your safety and enjoyment.

We’ll leave the lower reaches of Snowdon’s Pyg Track to strike up hill towards the imposing, steep flanks of Crib Goch. Some technical Grade 1 scrambling sees us gain the crest of the east ridge, which we ascend to reach the main arête. What now follows is a narrow, jagged knife-edge, the crossing of which is generally referred to as ‘doing Crib Goch’. The confident will stride along the very crest, but most will be content to drop down a short distance on the less-precipitous south side and use the crest as a hand-rail. The knife-edge finishes at Crib Goch’s pinnacles and after safely negotiating these, there’s a brief respite at a wide, grassy col. Then, more Grade 1 scrambling sees us gain another arête, that of Crib y Ddysgl. Less exposed than Crib Goch, this entertaining ridge leads to the top of Snowdon’s sister peak, Carnedd Ugain. It’s a straighforward walk from here to the summit of Snowdon itself. We’ll return to the start by way of one of several options to be decided on the day, completing a truly memorable day in the hills.

This route is extremely exposed with limited options for escape and requires a good head for heights. Prior scrambling experience and a good level of fitness is necessary. Please contact us if you have any questions.
